NEW YORK—The masterminds behind Brooklyn’s acclaimed beer bar—Tørst—just opened a restaurant on July 16 in Brooklyn.

The restaurant is called Luksus, which is Danish for “luxury.” It seats 26 people, and is discreetly located in the space behind Tørst on Manhattan Avenue in Greenpoint.

Upon arrival, diners are greeted with snacks such as the ham chip dusted with vinegar powder, which is made from dehydrated and fried Broadbent country ham that had been pureed with tapioca pearls.

The menu revolves around seasonal American ingredients, cooked with Scandinavian flavors and techniques.

Main courses feature game, poultry, and fish as well as unique vegetarian offerings such as the Braised Little Gem, which is made with grilled pea broth, mushroom puree, and mint oil.

Luksus’s chef is Daniel Burns, who was head of Research and Development at the popular Momofuku restaurant group.

Burns had previously worked for restaurants such as the Noma in Copenhagen, where he was instrumental in establishing their pastry program.

Beer consultant and world-renowned gypsy brewer, Jeppe Jarnit-Bjergsø of Evil Twin Brewing, is on hand to help guests decide which alcoholic beverage goes well with their meal.

As with the dinner menu, the beer offerings are perpetually changing to match the unique flavor profiles of Burns’ dishes.

Jarnit-Bjergsø’s beverage selections will feature beers made exclusively for Tørst and Luksus. They will also serve hard to find Evil Twin beers such as the palate cleansing pilsners, cider-like sours, and rich imperial stouts.

Luksus has an intimate dining room, its narrow interior is made with oak and reclaimed wood in its minimalistic design—crafted by Brooklyn-based firm hOmE.
