CHICAGO—“Thank you for a wonderful show,” said fresh-from-China, Stacy Hui, proud to explain her heritage to her Western friend during the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour presentation at the Chicago Civic Opera House, Illinois, on Saturday Dec. 27.

“I enjoyed the traditional things, some of the things that are good [DPA] can supply to the world. All the world will know about Chinese stuff [traditions]—I am proud of that.”

Her response was in regard to the oppression of the spiritual practice, Falun Dafa, a hidden reality in today’s China, and depicted in the dance “Persecuted on a Sacred Path.”

She said one day her and her friend will go to China, maybe Tibet, or even Mongolia together.

The energy and character of the Tibetan people were portrayed by a display of vigorous stomping in “Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountain,” while the vivacity of China’s ethnic dance, “Mongolian Chopsticks” showed ancient customs.

Ms. Hui said she explained Chinese traditional culture throughout the show to her friend Tony, who, though well-traveled, said he still had a lot to learn. “It’s the age of the culture. I’ve been to other parts of the world and I guess I'll keep learning new things,” he said.

‘There was a lot of meaning in it for us’

Also attending the DPA show was Ms. Spyropoulos and Eleni Spharen, a human resource professional. Both agreed the show was “awesome, colorful, inspiring.”

Ms. Spharen said she “really liked the [colorful] costumes and enjoyed the item ”Flowing Sleeves.”

“The two stringed instrument [erhu] could play a variety of sounds. It was incredible. The baritone was just amazing. Actually, there were deities in every scene, there were Buddhas and Daos.”

“There was a lot of meaning in it for us,” Ms. Spyropoulos said.
