Living Green in the City

Green living and sustainable food practices go hand in hand. Whether it’s a dinner out with a friend, or grabbing that quick bite in between meetings, supporting eco-friendly restaurants can go a long way to making the city a greener place to live.

Green living and sustainable food practices go hand in hand. Whether it’s a dinner out with a friend, or grabbing that quick bite in between meetings, supporting eco-friendly restaurants can go a long way to making the city a greener place to live.

Eco-conscious eaters have loads of options in New York and it’s important to patronize businesses that strive to be green any way they can, whether they support New York state farmers, green building, and/or other sustainable projects like composting and recycling stations.

Gusto Organics on Sixth Avenue near West 14th Street is my favorite (try their red sangria!). They use 100 percent organic ingredients in their Argentine/Latin cuisine. They also use recycling and composting, using wind power only, solar lighting, and green cleaning products.

I also recommend Inside Park at St. Bart’s on Park Avenue at 50th Street. Kudos to locavore chef Matthew Weingarten, a longtime advocate of sustainability, who has garnered acclaim for “some of the city’s finest greenmarket cooking.”
