HAMILTON, ON—Shen Yun Performing Arts left two lawyers with warm words and easy praise after they attended the dance company’s Hamilton Place Theatre Thursday afternoon show.
“It’s lovely. It’s just beautiful. The music is fabulous. Just learning about the history and the culture is just lovely,” said Milka Vujnovic, a lawyer specializing in family law and mediation.
“The dancers are great, but I am partial to the musicians, very complicated music,” added her date that evening, Milan Senator, a teacher.
Ms. Vujnovic said she and Mr. Senator heard about show during an “art crawl” in Hamilton a couple of weeks ago.
“We saw the exhibit and got the tickets,” she said. “It’s wonderful. It’s very moving, actually, and it gives us a taste of the culture, a little bit of the culture, the music, and the dance. It’s lovely, lovely!”
Shane Hickingbottom, an Osgoode Hall Law School graduate and Ontario crown attorney, said that he also enjoyed the show.
“It was a wonderful show. Excellent,” he said.
“The dancers were stunning and it was just all beautiful. Feast for the eyes. My daughter loved it,” said his wife, Susan Hickingbottom.
Mrs. Hickingbottom was moved by the dancing and costumes of “Plum Blossom,” a piece that tells the story of the brave little flower that blooms in the cold of winter.
“That was really beautiful,” she said of the dance.
“The choreography was excellent. It was really well-done,” added Mr. Hickingbottom.
Their daughter, Antonia, added her thoughts as well.
“I liked the music,” she said, referring to Shen Yun’s unique orchestra which combines classical Chinese and western symphony instruments.
“I really like the Chinese instruments. I play guitar myself so I like to explore different instruments, and I like the sound of them,” added Mr. Hickingbottom.
His wife agreed.
“I think that was terrific. It was just beautiful for the ears and the eyes. I don’t know what to say. I’m speechless. It was just so lovely.
