‘Divine Performing Arts fully manifested the Chinese history’ Says Traditional Korean Dancer

SEOUL, South Korea—Joo-Suh Lee, a traditional Korean dancer who performs professionally in South Korea, was in the audience for Divine Performing Arts (DPA) matinee at the Universal Arts Center in Seoul on Feb. 7. She was impressed by what she saw and described the DPA show as very “high-class.”

“If only dance is featured in a show, it cannot be considered as a successful performance. You need great music, costumes, staging, and sound system to complement the dance. Yet DPA coordinated everything so well,” she said.

Her impression was that “The costumes are very beautiful. It is wonderful.”

Apparel has always played an important role in Chinese history.

“The dances in this show allowed me to see China’s traditional history. Classical dance mainly should showcase one’s country. Regardless of what nation, as long as the dance shows the characteristic of the nation’s tradition, it can be considered as classical dance. [DPA] fully manifested the Chinese history.”

Many of traditional cultural values and practices have been lost throughout the world, and Ms. Lee hopes people can learn more about the essence of history that’s vanishing.

“Nowadays, no matter which country, ancient culture is being gradually destroyed. We are people who pursue tradition. I think all traditions should be preserved. I hope there can be more shows that revive the traditional culture. So I wish everyone can come and see this show; learn about history, learn about dance, and learn about their process of development,” added Ms. Lee.

The guiding mission of DPA is to rediscover and renew humanity’s true, rightful cultural heritage. The company thus creates and performs works that center upon the true culture of humankind and seeks to provide an experience of consummate beauty and goodness. The performers share a commitment to revive the classical arts.

Ms. Lee currently stays with Meiji University’s dance troupe, which also performs overseas. She said that she would hope to join DPA if she gets a chance.
