Katherine Schwarzenegger, the oldest daughter of California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and wife Maria Shriver, released her first book this week, which encourages girls to embrace self-acceptance.

The book is titled “Rock What You’ve Got: Secrets to Loving Your Inner and Outer Beauty” and seeks to dispel the sometimes unhealthy notions that many young girls have to try and lose weight.

Schwarzenegger was compelled to write the book after hearing her young cousins and other girls talk about their troubles while losing weight.

“They’re 8 years old and were talking about how they don’t want to be fat, and how they want to be ‘sexy,’” she said.

Schwarzenegger, who is a junior at the University of Southern California, said she wanted to write the book toward a wider audience than just her cousins.

“I want girls to read this and feel that it’s OK to be themselves - and to understand that every girl can be beautiful no matter what size and shape she is,” she added.

“You don’t have to look like you’re on a billboard to feel beautiful. I really wanted to correct girls’ perception of that.”

On Wednesday, she plans to be in Washington DC and New York for interviews and appearances.
