VANCOUVER, British Columbia—Joy Coghill, renowned Canadian actress, director and writer, was among the full-house audience at Shen Yun Performing Arts 2009 World Tour matinee on April 4, at Queen Elizabeth Theatre.

New York-based Shen Yun is composed of a group of leading overseas Chinese artists who are bringing about a renaissance of traditional Chinese culture—a culture that was all but destroyed with the advent of communism to China.

“I wanted to say to you it was a very, very beautiful experience to be in the audience participating in the show. What a job to get out of New York. It’s incredible; it’s quite obvious you have worked from the inside out. Not just for us to believe what you are doing, but for your own spiritual growth. This comes out from beyond the pristine and communicates with everyone, I am sure,” said Mrs. Coghill at a VIP reception.

Mrs. Coghill co-founded Holiday Theatre, the first children’s theatre company. She received the Canadian Governor General’s Performing Arts Award (2002) and became a member of the Order of Canada.

The Shen Yun production draws from China’s 5,000-year history from the time of the Yellow Emperor to the present day.

Mrs. Coghill said the basic word to describe the show would be “compassion.”

“It’s a very beautiful show, and it is superbly designed and performed, and there are little surprises everywhere that are just beautiful,” she said.

After completing its seven-show run in Vancouver from April 3 to April 8, Shen Yun Performing Arts will perform in Calgary, Edmonton, and Regina.
