TORONTO—“This is the most fabulous magnificent show I have ever seen in my life,” raved Ms. Rathika Babithas, a fund accountant with RBC. She was leaving the John Bassett Theatre in downtown Toronto Saturday afternoon after having just witnessed Divine Performing Arts’ Mid-Autumn Spectacular.
“I’m so blessed to see this program; I believe in fate and this program is magnificent and fabulous and my niece was saying I’m blessed to see this performance,” she said.
Ms. Babithas said the show brought her to tears several times. She attended with her husband, who she said was at first reluctant to join her.
“My husband loved it because he loves the drums. He told me that he hesitated to come but now he feels blessed to have come.”
“Our culture and Chinese are no different because we all are unselfish here,” she said. “I could see they’re promoting their culture that is pure, the dance and everything comes from a pure culture. I just want to say that everyone has to see this show—not only the Chinese, but everybody.”
Ms. Babithas described what most impressed her.
“What struck me was the neatness and the guys, well I’m shaking right now, while they were performing I was stressing to myself there is nothing to complain about.”
She also had a unique experience listening to baritone Qu Yue.
“When he was singing I didn’t feel that he was singing in Chinese because he was singing about feelings from the heart,” she said. “It doesn’t matter what language you speak. The performance is fabulous. Everybody has to see it and I would definitely come to see it again.”
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of China’s most ancient and cherished holidays. The Spectacular expresses Chinese classical dance and showcases authentic traditional Chinese culture.
