Herring lovers should look forward to the 34th annual Holland Herring Festival at Grand Central Oyster Bar. The venue has long been the traditional destination in the U.S. for the air-expressed, first herring of the season. They are flown in from Scheveningen, in The Netherlands, where the herring fleet makes its home. The festival is now under way, and lasts until July 5.
The herring filets are served with hard-boiled eggs, sweet onions, and chives ($7 per filet; $7.95 for the herring salad).
