If you are considering getting the best personal action camera out there, you might want to wait a little longer before making a purchase.
GoPro already has a critically acclaimed, Emmy award-winning camera in the GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition, but on October 5, the San Mateo company will be releasing their next latest and greatest product, the GoPro HERO4 Black Edition.
The specifications of the GoPro HERO4 Black Edition are out, but how much of an upgrade is it compared to the GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition?

Video
The GoPro HERO4 Black Edition can shoot 4K, ultra-wide viewing angle videos at 24, 30 and 35 frames per second. Users also have the option to shoot ultra-wide viewing angle, 4K SuperView videos at 25fps. The other available resolutions are 2.7K at 50fps, 1440p at 80fps, 1080p at 120fps, 960p at 120fps, and 720p at 120fps.
In comparison, the GoPro HD Hero3+ Black Edition can only shoot 4K videos at 15fps, as well as resolutions ranging from 2.7K at 30fps, 1440p at 48fps, 1080p at 60fps, 960p at 100fps, and 720p at 120fps.
So if you want the absolute best 4K videoing, picking the GoPro HERO4 Black Edition is a no-brainer.
Photo
The HERO4 and HERO3+ Black Editions have similar photo-taking capabilities.
Both cameras will capture 12 mega-pixels photos at 30fps in burst mode with a fixed f/2.8 aperture. Other features include time-lapse for intervals from 0.5 seconds to 60 seconds and night lapse of between 10 second to 30 second exposure times with up to 60 minute intervals.
Performance
The HERO4 should win hands down here as GoPro claims that it will take better quality pictures due to new powerful processor that is twice as fast as that of the GoPro HERO3+ Black Edition, as well as two times faster video frame rates.
Storage
Both will support microSD cards. The HERO3+ Black Edition supports microSD cards of up to 64GB.
Battery
The verdict is still out on the HERO4 Black Edition, but the HERO3+ Black Edition has a 1180mAH rechargeable lithium-ion battery that supposedly lasts 30 percent longer than the HERO3.
Connectivity
The HERO4 has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, whereas the HERO3+ only has Wi-Fi.
Price
At $499.99, HERO4 Black Edition is a hundred dollars more expensive than the HERO3+ Black Edition on the official GoPro website.
