The president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, Dr. Jack Fisher, has some words of advice if you are considering going overseas for plastic surgery.

Check Certification Standards

“Background and certification training vary from country to country. There are few countries with similar standards to the U.S. when it comes to pre-requisites for doctor training. Other places in the world might not have the credentials or proper training.

When considering cosmetic surgery outside the U.S., it is critical to do homework on these issues. No amount of cost savings can justify significant complications.”

Research The Facility Thoroughly

“Patients need to be careful when considering cosmetic surgery outside the U.S. They need to establish training and credentials of the physician as well as the facility where they'll be having their surgery.

It might seem cost effective when travelling abroad, but on returning it will cost thousands of dollars not covered by insurance in order to restore a patient [if there is a complication].

Going for cosmetic surgery abroad should not be considered lightly.”
