Looking for some things to do in Buenos Aires, Argentina on a budget? As the capitol of Argentina and one of the largest cities in South America, Buenos Aires plays host to some of the most interesting sights and scenes on the continent.

1. Palermo

One of the finest things to do on an afternoon in Buenos Aires is to take a long walk in the area known as Palermo, in the northern part of the city. Parks and open squares are scattered about the area, where you will certainly find your fair share of places to stop and enjoy the view. Rent boats at the lake and explore the Japanese botanical garden to add some extra flair.

2. Viejo District

The “Old District” is one of the best places to window-shop in Buenos Aires. You don’t have to buy anything if you’re just passing through. Cobblestone streets, boutiques, shops and bars included, there is a lot of ambiance to be soaked in here.

3. San Telmo

A visit to any major city wouldn’t be complete without a trip to its finest street market. Not only is San Telmo a flea market, but it also doubles as a street fair. Be there on Sunday night for a free tango performance in the plaza. One of the best things to do in Buenos Aires is dance!

4. Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

This always-free museum features some of the best works in Latin America. Not only will you find tons of great art by Argentinean and other South American artists, but the museum also houses pieces by Van Gogh, Degas, Gauguin, and Kadinsky. If you’re looking for a place to get your fine art fix on the cheap, this is it!

5. Free Tours of Buenos Aires

There are several organizations that offer free walking tours of the city. One of them, BA Free Tours, offers two daily tours, one each morning and afternoon.
