JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—The second 2010 New York-based Shen Yun Performing Arts show in Jacksonville again had a warm audience and a standing ovation.

The weather was uncommonly cold and windy. The waterway next to the theater sparkled, and shorebirds swooped over the wide walkway bordering the water. For the Saturday evening performance, some people drove as far as 100 miles from Gainesville. The Sunday matinee drew audience members from the capital city of Tallahassee, over 160 miles west.

Four friends from Tallahassee drove two and one half hours to Jacksonville to have lunch and see the show. They sat in the best seats. They had retired from careers as tax collectors, speech therapists, and teachers.

“It’s lovely, it’s lovely. It’s very entertaining as well as informative,” said Ms. Bachman.

“Oh I thought it was lovely, beautiful,” said Ms. Walford.

“Oh I thought it was wonderful. The precision, the variety of costumes, and the variety of dance.

“The agility, and when they jump, they go so high!” said Ms. Bachman.

“Such athletes, they’re all such athletes as well as dancers,” said Ms. Walford.

“I haven’t seen something like this before,” said Ms. Kinard.

The driver of the quartet, Ms. Padgett, said, “And their facial expressions are wonderful, too.”

Applause broke out during special moments in the dances. Wu Song Battles the Tiger evoked laughter, while other dances brought tears.
