New York City officials say the New Year’s Eve celebration in Times Square will be the safest place in the world, heavily secured by thousands of officers, including a new specialized counterterrorism unit.
Projecting its ambition for regional leadership, Saudi Arabia said Tuesday it has lined up most of the Arab world, NATO member Turkey and several African and Asian countries behind a vaguely defined “Islamic military alliance” against terrorists.
The announcement earlier last week that the Italian Government will match any new spending on new counterterrorism measures with spending on arts and culture seems to have come and gone by without much comment.
The terrorist organization ISIS is known to promote its activities by exploiting the open nature of the Internet. This includes recruiting through social networks like Facebook and Twitter, and using sites like YouTube to publish propaganda videos.
