Mother’s Day, which this year falls on May 12, is a time when we show our appreciation for our moms and honour the influence of mothers in society.

One of the most common gifts for moms is lunch or dinner at a favourite restaurant. Mother’s Day is actually the most popular day of the year to dine out. Other popular gifts are flowers—traditionally carnations—chocolates, and simply calling mom to wish her a happy Mother’s Day.

Here are a few other options that mom is sure to enjoy:

Personalized baskets: A gardening basket filled with gardening tools, gloves, and organic seeds; a coffee basket brimming with filters, pods, flavoured syrups, chocolate-dipped spoons, and biscotti; a bath basket with bath salts, massage oil, and natural creams and soaps.

Afternoon tea at an upscale restaurant: When was the last time you and mom were waited on with champagne cocktails, scones, and petit fours? Sit back and spend some quality time together.

Buffet brunch: This is a perfect time when family members can come together in a casual atmosphere and where all ages can feel comfortable.

Picnic in the park: If a fancy meal isn’t in the budget, create a picnic lunch with mom’s favourite delectables, then take her for a leisurely stroll through the park after lunch.

Performing arts: If mom is an art enthusiast, check out local galleries, theatres, or the symphony. See what’s playing and give her a gift certificate so she can go when it is convenient for her. Enclose a program.

For something more personal, a freshly made box of chocolate-dipped strawberries wrapped with a pretty satin ribbon will be received with a happy smile. Or make a favourite dessert that she made for you when you were a child. She will be delighted with your thoughtfulness.
