Ever wondered what your fast-food lunch might look like given an extreme make-over? Canapes from cheeseburgers or corn chowder from KFC. All these and more are on the menu at www.fancyfastfood.com.

Marvel at the amazing transformation: a fruit tart and elegant crème brulee started out life as a dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts, a cappuccino and a bottle of mineral water. The step-by-step photos could rival an episode of Masterchef. But it’s the recipe that really makes you wonder is this gourmet or just plain gross: “Scoop out the custard from each doughnut and place in a ramekin ... place the doughnut halves in a food processor and add two capsfuls of bottled water.”

Erik Trinidad set up the site as some gentle humour towards the self-importance of the “foodie movement”: “Calling oneself a ‘foodie’ has become a little annoying these days,” he says, “and Fancy Fast Food aims to poke fun at these gourmands as if to say, ‘Hey, you can have fancy food too, just by going to McDonald’s or KFC!’”

Reactions to the site have been varied, Erik says; some think its budget orientated recipes are rather timely considering our economic downturn, others think it’s a great idea for guys to impress girls without having to shell out a fortune on dinner... and some think it’s just downright disgusting.
