Former-Councilor of Hong Kong: ‘I was deeply touched and overwhelmed’

CHANGHUA, Taiwan—Shen Yun Performing Arts Touring Company put on its first performance upon its final leg of the 2013 Taiwan tour to a full house at the Changhua County Yuanlin Performance Hall on the evening of April 1. Moved by the magnificent performance, Mr. Spencer Tai, member of Hong Kong Tourism Board, was proudly among the audience.

“Shen Yun Performing Arts is worth our respect. Its synchronization among dance, music, and backdrops were perfect,“ he stated. ”It made me feel very comfortable.”

Shen Yun fully demonstrated a wide-range of technical skills in classical Chinese dance including bearing, form, jumping, leaping, turning, lifting, and various tumbling techniques. Touched by the cordial interactions between performers and the audience, Mr. Tai extended his praise. “This is my fourth or fifth time seeing Shen Yun show in Taiwan,“ he said. ”I love to see dances in which male dancers are full of strength and female dancers are full of gentleness and exquisiteness.”

"Seeing their graceful performances with strength and gracefulness, I feel like dancing with them,” he added.

Speaking of Shen Yun’s application of high-tech animated backdrops in its performances, as well as its adaption of classical Chinese literature for its programs, Mr. Tai said, “Chinese classical literature often leaves an expression of old-fashioned rigidness on people, but Shen Yun brings it back to life vividly.

“Take the programs, Sand Monks Is Blessed and When Shaolin Monks Protected the Emperor, for instance: Some educational connotations are included in the enjoyable performances, which makes it easier for people to understand,“ he added. ”It is precious to include the divinely inspired Chinese culture in performing arts. This is what’s great about Shen Yun.”

Mr. Tai also commented on Shen Yun’s full inclusion of so many righteous and positive influences. “It is very righteous,“ he said. ”I feel it is very important. As society nowadays is full of chaotic situations, if we had more good cultural promoters, I think society would be better off.”

Mr. Tai concluded by expressing his humblest gratitude for Shen Yun. “It is indeed amazing. Seeing their magnificent performances, I feel like dancing with them,“ he said. ”It makes me feel very comfortable, and I was deeply touched and overwhelmed.”

Mr. Tai was once elected as Councilor of the Hong Kong District Council Central and West District, and he is currently a member of the Hong Kong Tourism Board as well as a member of the Committee on Shopping-related Practices.
