HAMILTON, Canada—Shen Yun Performing Arts delighted a Hamilton audience with its opening show at the Hamilton Place Theatre on Jan. 11.

Ernie Yenn, a former trumpet player, was among those attending the performance. He said he was impressed by the music of the Shen Yun Orchestra.

“I like it with the full orchestra. I like the sound,” Mr. Yenn said.

The classical Chinese dance performances are accompanied by original scores composed and performed live by the orchestra. The orchestra is unique in that it combines traditional Chinese instruments with a classical Western orchestra.

Mr. Yenn said he also enjoyed the other aspects of the performance.

“I like the dancing, very nice, the costumes—everything is very beautiful,” he said.

He also admired the technique and physical strength of the Shen Yun dancers.

“All the dancing is very precise, and the people are very athletic, in such good condition to be able to do that kind of dancing. And the costumes [are] beautiful. I enjoyed it very much,” Mr. Yenn said.

‘Fantastic’

Also in attendance on Saturday afternoon was Mike Pyziak, a local business owner.

“It was fantastic, we loved it,” he said. ”It was very nice, very colourful."

New York-based Shen Yun was established by a group of leading classical Chinese artists with a mission to revive China’s divinely inspired culture.

Mr. Pyziak said attending Shen Yun helped him learn more about China.

“It was educational … it makes you think about China, the history and everything,” he said.

For Mr. Pyziak, Shen Yun was something new and different, and he thought that others should also experience it.

“For us it was completely different. We’ve never seen a show like this before. It is something I would definitely recommend.”
