NASHVILLE, Tenn.—Nashville is best known as Music City, center of the music industry and a paradise for aspiring country-western musicians. But the city celebrated a different type of arts and culture on Saturday, Feb.19, at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center—classical Chinese music and dance. Shen Yun Performing Arts were in town, a world-renowned company with a mission to revive traditional Chinese culture and art forms.

Desiree Wooldridge was in the audience for the Saturday evening performance. A professional events specialist and former Spanish newspaper editor, Ms. Wooldridge was happy to take some time to relax and be entertained. She was completely charmed by the show.

“I think it is fabulous, and innovative, and historical, and cultural and interesting!” she said of Shen Yun.

She appreciated the new perspective Shen Yun offered to Western audiences.

“There’s definitely a big part of the Asian culture that we don’t see. Especially how far it’s come and the historical relevance that isn’t a part of our everyday lives,” she says.

“It is full of color and interest and it flows very well.”

Ms. Wooldridge said the stories in Shen Yun offered an entertaining glimpse of ancient Chinese culture and history.

“It tells the full story through dance,” she said.
