It is a devastating diagnosis there is no escaping from—motor neurone disease (MND), and this brilliant young cancer doctor had been dealt a huge blow.
When Dr. Ian Davis found out he had MND, he was only 33, with a promising career ahead of him. He was passionate about finding a cure for leukemia.
That all changed, however, as he had to leave his career behind, and he began to focus on finding a cure for the MND that was ravaging his own body.
He began fundraising for the Fight MND campaign, which he co-founded, and in just four short years, the fund had raised over $40 million.
Seven years after his diagnosis, Dr. Davis posted a heartbreaking photo taken together with his 4-year-old son, Archie.
“Today I say farewell,” the 40-year-old father posted on Facebook.
“Thank you everyone for all the support, love, and compassion over the years during my fight. It has been some ride. I will leave this broken body with a full heart. Please tell my boy I love him and I’m so proud to be his dad. This photo taken yesterday is our final moment together.”
Davis was surrounded by family and friends as his life support was turned off on Nov. 1, 2018. He was one very courageous man.
“All the people affected by the disease, be they patients, families, carers and researchers, have a great deal to thank Ian for,” said Guest.
