The New York-based Shen Yun company says its aim is to revive China’s culture, which has been all but destroyed under decades of communist rule in China.
Both Mrs. Coenradi and her daughter thought the Shen Yun performance at the Orpheus Theater, on April 4, depicted Chinese culture in a captivating way.Shen Yun portrays these stories through classical Chinese dance, accompanied by a live orchestra comprised of Eastern and Western instruments. Many of the story-based dances show China’s traditional culture before communism.
“Actually, what we thought was most impressive were parts featuring the culture—it showed how they help each other, the morals and the values,” Mrs. Coenradi said. “This is very nice to see.”This inspired her to think that it is possible to have those high standards in today’s society
“Actually, that bringing together of beauty and morals, and the performance shows how it’s still possible in this time and age. It’s very enriching to see it actually,” she shared.
“It’s unbelievable how they appeared to jump off the stage into the screen and into a kind almost virtual world. It’s very well performed and very well done.”
“One of the reasons we wanted to see it is because it tells a story that’s untold in China itself,” she said.
