JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Divine Performing Arts (DPA) played their final performance in Florida at the Times Union Performing Arts Center in Jacksonville Dec. 26, and was applauded by all.

Mr. Samon, a professional photographer and Jacksonville resident for over 40 years, was among the audience members and appreciated many aspects of the performances.

He studied Mandarin for three years in college, and felt he knew a little about Chinese culture.

“I’ve always been fascinated with Chinese arts. Every move, everything tells a story.”

This was the first time Mr. Samon had seen a DPA performance, and he felt the performance had deeper meanings that were captured in the dance, the music, and the backdrops.

“Here it gives more of an in-depth meaning of where different things come from, like the writing, the importance of the flower in [The Udumbara’s Bloom],” his favourite dance.

Mr. Samon also liked the drums “for the rhythm and the story that they told.”

He thought the backdrops added to the audience’s understanding of the performances: “The backdrops, Oh! Beautiful! Very good! The backdrop adds the meaning to the story … a very important part of the whole dance performance.”

The company heads to Durham, North Carolina for performances on Dec. 28.
