WASHINGTON—Divine Performing Arts’ (DPA) run at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. is coming to a close. Saturday’s evening performance was sold out and had a waiting list. The theater began to sell standing room tickets that sold out quickly.

This Valentine’s Day Mr. King surprised his girlfriend Ms. Tyson with tickets to DPA at the Kennedy Center. She was pleased. “I loved the show. I thought the show is wonderful. Great event, really talented singers and dancers,” said Ms. Tyson.

Mr. King also enjoyed the program. Both were impressed with the variety of the programs and recommend everyone see the performance.

“I really enjoyed it visually. I thought the color was fantastic. The color and the movement and the way they blended the old and the new,” said Mr. King.

DPA uses a projected, moving backdrop to set the stage for the dance performances. This colorful backdrop brings the context of the stories to life. Mr. King said, “It’s very clever using the backdrop. We saw the different Gods in Heaven and they traveled down to the stage.”

The program includes two dance performances about modern events in China, specifically the persecution of Falun Gong. These dances bring to life values of courage and compassion.

“I was quite surprised by stories of contemporary China,” said Mr. King. “They had meaningful topics, I thought it was more conceptual, more old world, but yet there were contemporary modern themes. We read about them in the newspaper and it was interesting to see them played out and how the ideas of the old world still hold true today.”
