TAIPEI, Taiwan—Wu Ciou-syuan, a singer from the Association of Vocal Artists of the Republic of China (ROC) attended the fifth show presented by Divine Performing Arts (DPA) in Taipei on Feb. 28.

After the show she explained how, through Divine Performing Arts (DPA), she again felt the originality and vitality of Eastern arts.

“Eastern arts are truly precious. There is even this group of people who take Eastern culture and make it even more exquisite—it’s just really great!” she said.

Wu Ciou-syuan has outstanding achievements as a vocalist and once won first place in Taipei’s Eastern District Female Solo Competition, performing as part of the Kaohsiung City Symphony Orchestra, the Taipei City Symphony Orchestra, and other famous orchestras many times.

She currently holds a teaching post at a high-school in Taipei County, leads the choir, a chanting choir at a Catholic Church, and is also a member of the Taiwan’s Association of Vocalists.

Ms. Wu pointed out that the DPA dance, music, and costumes were all original creations, which she said excited and touched her heart.

“Usually in teaching materials to students, we give first place to Western artists, whereas us Eastern artists are often overlooked. Tonight seeing the show, I was so moved—we’ve always had these treasures, and now we can bring it to a wider audience.

“They sung extremely well! The music was very beautiful,” she said. She also pointed out that many of the themes DPA adopted were taken from traditional Chinese cultural stories, like The Monkey King Triumphs, and The Poet’s Vision, which depicts the famous Chinese poet Li Bai. Through the presentation these stories were given, she said she had a deeper impression of the deep cultural foundation hidden within them.

She also  praised DPA’s music highly, praising the “Chinese elements in the music, but there were also Western elements inside. I felt this was extremely good.”
