TAINAN, Taiwan—The Divine Performing Arts Company (DPA) gave two curtain calls at its fourth performance in the city of Tainan on Feb. 22. Both times, Cai Maosong, the Head of the School of Visual Arts at Changrong University, was among the standing applauding the performance.

Mr. Cai praises the success of DPA in bringing Chinese culture to the whole world. He said that the performance could be taken as an example, and it encourages artists to view and emulate DPA and learn from their performances.

“The program was arranged very well, the integration of the performance was planned perfectly. The coordination between the backdrops and the performers was flawless. The use of 3-D technology was very special, and the sound and lighting were also unique.

“Every aspect of the DPA show is at a high standard. This sort of performance is very rare: Shows of this quality are seldom seen.” He thought that the show combined the essence of Chinese tradition, with a weaving in of some elements of Western art, and in this sense thought it could be considered a blending of the East and West into one performance.

“This is the kind of work that Chinese people should be doing, assiduously—this sort of special Eastern and Western program. It’s very rarely seen, and I think this kind of performance would be extremely well-received around the world. DPA is so successful in promoting Chinese culture and art to the whole world,” Mr. Cai said.

Mr. Cai said he was impressed by the fact that even in the midst of the world financial crisis and depressed economies, DPA was able to come to Tainan for six shows, with four shows already packed, and the next two shows filling up quickly.

“This is rare, not easy at all. Everyone into art should see it. How to combine Eastern and Western art, and then, how to popularize and develop it? I enjoyed seeing the DPA group. It will be a great help in the future, and it is also very meaningful.”
