TAICHUNG, Taiwan—Divine Performing Arts’ (DPA) third annual visit to Taiwan attracted 90,000 ticket purchasers for its month-long shows in six cities.

At the third stop, Hui-Sun Auditorium at National Chung Hsing University in Taichung on March 5, was Hsiao Jiefu, president of the hosting university, his wife, and Don Grierson, academician of the U. K. Royal Academy of Science.

The couple watched the show for the third consecutive year. This year, Mr. Grierson happened to be in town and was invited to the show by Mr. Hsiao for him to understand the differences between Western and Eastern cultures.

“It displayed Chinese culture through dance and music. It was very nice. From costumes, dance to backdrops, it’s all first-class,” said Mr. Hsiao. He said that the show has brought joy to the university campus.

Mr. Hsiao said that Hui-Sun Auditorium was refurbished earlier this year with a million dollar upgrade (about $30,000). The new carpet and the sofa chairs improved the venue and was enjoyed by audience members watching the DPA show.

“Every program was worth encouraging. I told Don that there is a vast difference between Western and Eastern cultures and he was very happy upon watching the show.”

Mr. Hsiao said that in order to achieve unity in the world, everyone first needs to learn about one another’s cultures. “Arts events are the best way to communicate between people. People can know about their differences, similarities, and accept and admire one another’s cultures.”

In terms of the freedom of belief embraced by the show, Mr. Hsiao said, “Whether people believe in gods or Buddhas, as long as people can be upright and good, they should accept one another. Just like the balance in nature, everyone can live gloriously together.

“Basically, just human morality,” said Mr. Hsiao. As long as people have compassion in their hearts like the performers do in DPA.
