ST.LOUIS—Divine Performing Arts (DPA) served up a feast for the eyes that an art teacher and her friends happily took in on Saturday at the The Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center.

“It was elegant, very well done, the performance was just overwhelming,” said Ms. Hummel, who teaches art at a religious institution.

“It was very entertaining. You could see all of the hard work and especially the culture. There is a lot of pride, dignity—it was very impressive. The music goes along with it. I really enjoy the dancing and the costumes.”

Classical Chinese dance is a unique dance heritage. In its early stages it was mainly passed down among the common people, through members of the imperial court, and as part of ancient theater. Over the years, dancers refined, experimented with, and reworked it to arrive at the extraordinary system of Chinese classical dance known today. It is part of the divinely inspired heritage that is China’s five-millennia-old culture, and one means by which that culture lives on.

Mr. Manoogian, a friend of Ms. Hummel, also praised the show.

“I liked the orchestra and the dancing. It was a well-put-together show, I would recommend it to anybody.”

“Very much so,” agreed Ms. Hummel.

“It was beautiful, very beautiful, and inspiring and colorful and the music was beautiful,” said their other friend, Ms. Jayne, a history teacher.

Ms. Jayne added, “I think this was really rich and full.”

“It is a tribute to [the Chinese] culture, it really really is, very much so. That’s why I would recommend it, very much so. That is why I was impressed,” explained Ms. Hummel.

Ms. Hummel says she didn’t know much about the Chinese culture before the show, but now she feels that she has a better understanding as a result of what she learnt during the show.

“It builds your interest, that’s what I liked about it. It was a nice presentation.”

“This was a very nice evening,” she said, adding she “absolutely” would recommend the show to her friends and colleagues.
