SAN DIEGO—Mrs. Swier and her granddaughter Christina attended the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company’s performance at the San Diego Civic Theater on Saturday evening Dec. 27.

Christina so loves the Asian culture that her grandmother gave her a ticket as a Christmas present; she wanted her to see this show. Mrs. Swier said: “I would not be here but I wanted her to see it and she was thrilled because she had been reading about it. I am thrilled it is going to be coming back next year, I want to bring her sister and her mother because this is something everyone should see.”

Mrs. Swier enjoyed every part of the show. She especially appreciated the Master of Ceremony’s explanations of the performances. “I loved it, I could not believe it was three hours, it went by so quickly and with the narrators it just flowed and I appreciated that, so did my granddaughter. Having a kind of prelude introduction to each dance, it made it a lot easier to understand. The costuming was fabulous, the dancers were amazing, but I loved the stories, I love to read and I love history.”

“It just flowed, starting from the beginning, thousands of years ago and coming up to the current era; I loved having the stories.”

Mrs. Swier also liked the spiritual aspect in the performances, she said: “I had no idea how, how heavenly, how into the afterlife, that is what amazed me, the spiritual aspect ... I realize Buddha is peace and tranquillity and all, but I loved it, it was just ... I don’t know, it made me feel at peace and Christina loved it too ... she embraces the Asian culture so much ... it brings her peace, it kind of takes the stress away.”

Mrs. Swier noticed the beauty in the dances and added: “I have three granddaughters who are ballerinas but there is no toe dancing in the Chinese dance, it is like they flow. I don’t know how they do the steps as it has no bounce, it’s like they are flowing on the floor, like there is water or they are gliding.

“The men were so graceful they really were.

In summing up, Mrs. Swier said: “It was like reading a story and each dance was like a chapter in that book. It was beautiful, very well done, very professional, so whoever runs it should be congratulated. I loved it ... I loved the show and I hope that they keep it up, and I hope it expands.”
