PASADENA, Calif.—Mr. Pollini has studied ballet for 20 years and has danced in the world-class Boston Ballet. He has also performed in modern jazz productions. Lately, he has been promoting himself more as an actor by playing supporting roles in videos with stars, such as Jennifer Lopez and Jessica Simpson.

He said he was very comfortable with the way DPA brings classical Chinese dance and ancient traditions to life in a colorful and masterfully choreographed show.

“I felt really, really at home to what I was used to with ballet and movement,” said Mr. Pollini.

“It [classical Chinese dance] has a different feel, a different style, but ballet is more rigid, more hard, and this was just very flowing and beautiful.”

The 27-year-old said that classical Chinese dance embodied a philosophy, “whether it be ... Buddhism, or spirituality,” it captured that type of essence.

“The stories seem very expressive, very straightforward in communicating dance moves. They didn’t use their mouths; they used their bodies to express things. I can really appreciate what they have going here.”
