NEW YORK—As the Chinese New Year began, Divine Performing Arts (DPA) held twelve shows in four theaters in the New York area. Bao Tong, former Policy Secretary of Zhao Ziyang, Premier of the State Council, congratulated DPA on their success. Mr. Zhao tried to prevent the 1989 Tiananmen massacre, sacrificing his political career and his freedom.  At his death in 2005, Mr. Bao told Time magazine “During his twenty months as General Secretary, Zhao Ziyang created a culture in which the Politburo of the CPC refrained from interfering in the courts, and stopped its attempts to control literature and the arts.”

Mr. Bao told The Epoch Times that the shows promoted the essence of traditional Chinese culture and said their work was a magnificent breakthrough.

The DPA’s Performance is Full of Aspiration and Life

Mr. Bao said, “Whether a performing group can convey good art and ideas to the audience and resonate with the audience is how I judge its artistic and spiritual level. The DPA’s performance reaches deep down into people’s hearts and people shed tears as a result. It’s a good spiritual aspiration and proves the DPA brings a positive message to mankind. The performance is full of aspiration and life and such a superior art would last forever.”

The DPA Brings Out Kindness and Reestablishes Morality

“The DPA’s performance resonates with people’s minds and brings out the kindness from the bottom of people’s hearts,” said Mr. Bao, “The traditions are about morality, benevolence, righteousness, loyalty, dutifulness and humanity. Between men, there should be mutual caring instead of suppression and fights. It is important that men keep their humanity or society would be full of jackals and wolves (evil people).”

Unity of Heaven and Mankind is Rooted in Chinese Minds

An important aspect of Chinese tradition is the unity of heaven and mankind, according to Mr. Bao, and this idea is deeply rooted in Chinese people’s minds.

“Justice of nature and principles of human relations are inseparable. The spirit of unity between heaven and men keep a society stable, healthy and harmonious. When a government has this idea, the country will be prosperous and safe. When the people believe this idea, they can then enjoy longevity.”

“Some may find unity between heaven and men a superstition. In fact, mankind is a product of nature and without it, men would not survive. This idea is scientific. Mankind needs to get along with nature, to love, protect, and adapt to it instead of remaking it, working against it and destroying it.”

Persecution of Spiritual Believers Is Doomed

Several dances in the DPA’s show reflect the Chinese Communist Party’s brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. The dances have moved many audience members to tears.

Mr. Bao believes the persecution is not political. It is about spirituality and humanity; about telling right from wrong, good from evil, truth from lies.

“The persecution of Falun Gong is a tragedy, it shouldn’t have happened. People have the right to believe. In history, the persecutions of beliefs all fail. Coercing believers to give up their beliefs will never succeed.”

“Nowadays in China, the idea of right and wrong is messed up. Those who choose to take responsibility for society are often attacked. This is why people become indifferent and play it safe. It’s a big problem. People are entitled to have their attitudes but they shouldn’t treat normal, legitimate, positive forces as enemies and attack them. This is suicidal.”
