NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J.—Rush Holt is both a Congressman and a physicist. He was extremely impressed by the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular in New Brunswick Saturday Jan. 24.

He thought the performers were “very talented, very skilled performers—they have obviously rehearsed a great deal. To my untrained eyes, it looks perfect.”

Congressman Holt expressed his appreciation for every aspect of the performance.

“All of the dance is very skilled and very disciplined … whenever I see people who can do any small thing or large thing with such skill I am impressed, and just whether it’s the drummers, or the fans or just the gracefulness of the movement it’s all very impressive.’

Congressman Holt represents the 12th District of New Jersey. He has held positions as a teacher, Congressional Science Fellow, and arms control expert at the U.S. State Department where he monitored the nuclear programs of countries such as Iraq, Iran, North Korea, and the former Soviet Union.

As a man involved in public affairs he felt compelled to comment on the concept of freedom of expression.

“You know, I am reminded that one of the things that we value in the United States is freedom of expression, and that includes artistic expression...”

Congressman Holt was also inspired to draw parallels between the values expressed in the show and the animal associated with the current Chinese New Year.

“I wish a Happy New Year to all, the year of the Ox, the year of hard work, we have much work to do, I hope it will be a year of free expression, of free practice of our spiritual opportunities, and a year of great productivity for the world.”
