PASADENA, Calif.—Elected officials throughout Southern California sent their greetings and wishes for success for this year’s Chinese New Year Spectacular in the Los Angeles area. Divine Performing Arts will be putting on eight shows this year at the Pasadena Civic in Pasadena.

U.S. Congress member Loretta Sanchez said in her greeting, “The 2009 Divine Performing Arts’ Chinese New Spectacular is the largest Chinese New Year celebration event outside of China. The event highlights the Chinese culture through an extraordinary world-class production that brings together over 500 performers to depict the classic battle between good and evil and ancient culture.”

U.S. Congress members Linda Sanchez and Lois Capps also showed their support for the show in letters or certificates of recognition.

Speaker of the California Assembly Karen Bass also extended a welcome to the show, saying “The Divine Performing Arts group’s show this year represents a truly unique window into ancient Chinese myths and culture, and it serves to bring all Angelenos together through art.”

Van Tran, California State Legislature assemblyman, also wrote a letter welcoming the show. Fellow assembly members Mike Davis and Curren Price supported the show through a resolution passed through the California Legislature Assembly.

Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles City Council members Jan Perry, Wendy Greuel, and Bernard Parks recognized the Spectacular for its outstanding work and commitment to traditional culture.

The city of Beverly Hills also recognized the Spectacular, in a certificate signed by Mayor Barry Brucker, Vice Mayor Frank Fenton, and councilmembers Linda Briskman, Jimmy Delshad, Nancy Krasne.

Redondo Beach commended the show, from Mayor Michael Gin and City Councilmembers Steve Aspel, Chris Cagle, Pat Aust, Steven Diels, Matt Kilroy.

Mayor Robert Harbicht of Arcadia presented a certificate of appreciation to the host of the Chinese New Year Spectacular.

The city of Alhambra wished the show success, presented by Mayor Barbara Messina, Vice Mayor Stephen Placido, and councilmembers Stephen Sham, Gary Yamauchi, and Luis Ayala.

Chris Holden, city councilmember of Pasadena, recognized Divine Performing Arts, as did Jim Edwards, Mayor of Cerritos, and Joseph Cho, councilmember of Cerritos.
