JACKSONVILLE, Florida—Toi and Michelle, owners of an Internet retail business, celebrated Christmas at the Divine Performing Arts (DPA) final performance at the Times Union Performing Arts Center in Jacksonville on Dec. 26. Michelle bought four tickets as Christmas gifts.

This was the first time Michelle and Toi had seen the show—they had seen advertising in previous years, but the show had not come to Jacksonville until now.

“I always wanted to come and see the show,“ Toi said. ”When we heard it was coming to Jacksonville I said I wanted to come… I was looking forward to it… the website is very beautiful, when you look at it it makes you want to come.”

Toi loved everything about the show, she said, “I think the show is wonderful and spectacular, a very wonderful performance, and I am glad it came to Jacksonville … I hope they come back year after year!”

“The culture, the wonderful performances, the dance, the drumming, the spectacular outfits, just wonderful.”

Michelle liked the Yi Ethnic Dance the best, though she felt they were all very beautiful. Commenting on the many aspects of each she said, “I like the dance—with the costumes and color, and the way they dance together. I don’t know, there is something very majestic.

“You can see that they look like they love what they are doing, it is not just that they love to perform, but they seem to so enjoy performing and sharing this part of the Chinese culture with everyone, and there is something very magical about that. It is beautiful, just beautiful. My seats were so close, I could just reach out and touch them.”

“Look at the fan dance, what they did with the fans, how beautiful when they opened them all the way around! It’s just a little surprise, it’s just little things that they keep adding to the enjoyment of the piece.

“All the little details together, whether it is the way the costumes are made or how quickly they are able to come on and off the stage, the costume changes and everything about making it a very enjoyable experience for the audience. They are all smiles and happy, I don’t know, it’s very beautiful, just very beautiful to experience and see.

“I would come again, I would come again because you need to experience this.”

The company heads on to Durham, North Carolina for performances on Dec. 28.
