HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—Huntsville, an agricultural hot spot and a major producer of cotton in the southern state of Alabama, welcomes Divine Performing Arts (DPA) to the Von Braun Center Concert Hall on the evening of Feb 6. Along with this Southern hospitality, DPA received warm greetings from many prominent people in the “Heart of Dixie.”

Mayor of Huntsville, Tommy Battle, welcomed the dance company to his city in a statement.

“As mayor, and on behalf of the citizens of Huntsville, I would like to welcome you to our city. I am excited that Divine Performing Arts is again presenting its annual Chinese Spectacular in Huntsville. I have no doubts this Spectacular will continue to delight everyone who witnesses the pageantry, beauty, and thrilling choreography that will be on stage tonight in the VBC’s Concert Hall. Our city has benefited from the many hours your organizers have spent planning this event, and I know your performers and others visiting our city will find a warm welcome.”

Mayor of Arab, Alabama, Gary W. Beam, mentioned that it was truly an honor to welcome DPA back to Huntsville. He referred to DPA as “a tremendous opportunity for thousands of persons to experience an amazing arts performance and to gain a glimpse into the beauty and rich heritage of the ancient Chinese culture. This is indeed a special occasion that will provide an evening of unforgettable memories to all who experience it.”

Mayor Dan Williams of Athens, Alabama and Dan Stanford, mayor of Decatur, were in agreement with their views that the Spectacular brings the essence and the true spirit of Chinese culture expressed in the forms of classical performing arts, giving people a deeper understanding and connection to the Chinese culture and fostering understanding between Chinese and Western cultures. Mayor Williams offered further complements by stating, “Divine Performing Arts should be praised for its continued efforts to bring the best of Chinese culture to Huntsville and to the entire world.”

Bobby Irons, mayor of Florence, Alabama said, “I would like to especially commend the participants of the Spectacular and recognize the countless hours you have given to master the techniques to bring to life the traditional classical Chinese dance and music.”

Max A. Townson, mayor of the town of Cullman, Alabama, said, “I am so excited that the Divine Performing Arts Chinese New Year Spectacular will be coming to Huntsville, Alabama, for the second year! Congratulations on the many successful performances you have had so far around the world and in the United States. Thank you for sharing the Chinese culture with us through this remarkable, colorful, and beautiful show.”

Mayor Robert L. Hembree, Jr. of Guntersville, Alabama wrote, “This is a rare opportunity for the community to enjoy this outstanding cultural event that has been so successful here in the United States and around the world. We appreciate the opportunity to enjoy this gloriously colorful and exhilarating performance showcasing the Chinese culture, art, and dance.”

Mayor of Madison, Alabama, Paul Finley expressed his pleasure in seeing Northern Alabama host such a unique event that is both educational and inspirational. He said, “Your sense of stewardship to the community is commendable. The insight and education you bring of the Chinese cultural heritage is a wonderful gift to Northern Alabama.”

Terry John Calhun, mayor of Rainbow City, Alabama said, “The Spectacular uses the expression of Chinese classical dance, showcasing genuine traditional Chinese culture with pure truthfulness, pure compassion, and pure beauty.”

Mayor Billy Shoemaker of Tuscumbia, Alabama shared some very kind words. “As mayor and on behalf of our city council, we join many elected officials in extending our warmest welcome to your Divine Performing Arts as you come to our part of this great country to present your annual Chinese Spectacular. Your amazing talent is surely enjoyed by all and the elaborate costumes are truly beautiful. The musicians and dancers perform with such great precision it is almost unbelievable.”
