TAIPEI, Taiwan—A renowned master of Chinese opera in Taiwan, Li Baochun, attended the second show of Divine Performing Arts (DPA) in Taipei on Feb. 26. Mr. Li said many friends recommended DPA’s performance and so he attended with other artists.
“DPA’s ... skill of classical Chinese dance was very good. The dancing performances were quite beautiful,” Mr. Li said.
Mr. Li was born into in a respected family of Chinese opera artists in Beijing. Mr. Li’s father, Li Shaochun, was one of the great modern performers of Peking Opera. In 1990, he joined the Chinese opera promotional team of The Koo Foundation. Today, he is the director of Taipei Li-yuan Chinese Opera Theatre.
Mr. Li paid particular attention to the classical Chinese dancing skills in the show. Mr. Li thought the dancers were “marvelous.”
DPA New York-based production has its own complete set of training methods in foundational techniques, a strict regimen for perfecting bearing and form, and its own means of training for highly demanding aerial skills, such as stunning dives, leaps, spins, and superlative body control.
Mr. Li also noted DPA’s artistic representation of ancient legends of heroism and modern stories of courage, unique, and innovative. “The dancing skills, choreography, and the design of all themes were perfectly combined,” he said.
