“The percussion, and all the symbols and everything is fabulous, very detail oriented—you can see it from all the way in the back ... and everyone can see it, so it’s a crowd-pleaser for all ages.”

CHICAGO—The Divine Performing Arts New York Company performed their second of three shows at the Civic Opera House, Chicago on Saturday night, Dec. 27. Ms. Nelson and her mother were among the audience who were captivated by the many performances of music and storytelling through dance.

Ms. Nelsen, a professional dancer of 19 years, started dancing when she was 2 years-old and now also teaches dance. Her mother saw the tickets advertised and bought her one as a Christmas present. Ms. Nelson was delighted.

As a dancer and teacher, Ms. Nelson was aware of the finer details of the dances. She explained, “I grew up doing classical ballet. It [Chinese classical dance] is very different, very exciting—you don’t get a lot of culture downtown, so this is very exciting. The technique is very high, it’s very together, their spacing is excellent. The footwork is exquisite.”

Ms. Nelson also appreciated the many other facets of the performances, particularly the music. “The music is wonderful,“ she said. ”The percussion, and all the symbols and everything is fabulous, very detail oriented—you can see it from all the way in the back ... and everyone can see it, so it’s a crowd-pleaser for all ages.”

“I like all the culture and the synopses they give you before each dance, letting you know ... a little background, which is great!“ she added. ”I loved the little stories and the history that you get with it, too.”
