BROOKLYN—The Divine Performing Arts (DPA) Chinese New Year Splendor came to the Brooklyn Academy of Music this weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Nigro saw the final performance of this leg of the 2009 World Tour on Sunday Jan. 4. and they were very impressed by the dancers.

“They were great performers. It was wonderful. I would have loved to have met them!” said Mr. Nigro who runs his own business in credit counseling.

He really appreciated the story and the grace of the dancers and said that the music complemented it. “It just had a nice flow to it. It was very mellifluous, sweet and flowing.”

Mrs. Nigro, a mortgage banker, agreed with her husband that the women were very delicate and graceful. “they were like flowers!” she said.

“And,” added Mr. Nigro, “I really enjoyed the first set of drums, where the women came out with drums in the beginning. They were so delicate … so delicate yet so forceful. It was almost like a contradiction, but it just went over so well.”

They had not seen any Chinese shows before and found that it expressed a different culture with which they were unfamiliar. “The way it was presented, it was very educational, yet very entertaining,” said Mr. Nigro.

As regulars to Broadway shows they found this one to be a new experience and quite different but, as Mrs. Nigro said, “It was terrific, I enjoyed it very much.”

They both agreed that it was very pleasurable to watch and they would come back again.

If you missed the show over the weekend, the Divine Performing Arts will be at Radio City Music Hall on January 24 and 25 to bring in the Chinese New Year.
