AARHUS, Denmark—The Shen Yun Performing Arts Company from New York played its Denmark premier on Monday, March 9. A large crowd enjoyed the first of two shows at the Concert Hall in Aarhus, Denmark’s second largest city that dates back to a twelfth century Viking settlement.

The show ended with two curtain calls and a long standing ovation. The Epoch Times met a pleased spectator on his way out from the venue.

“I didn’t know what to expect, so I was very surprised, in a nice way” said Mr. Amblard, global purchaser for an energy company.

The program that made the greatest impression on him was definitely the drums.

By his side was Miss Allali, a food engineer, who was fascinated by the beautiful costumes. “There were hundreds of them!” she said.

She found the music incredible and the artists’ performances very good, especially the erhu player.

The erhu is a two-stringed Chinese violin with a remarkably human-like sound. Audiences are often surprised by the expressiveness and powerful emotion it conveys.

“It was astonishing to see,” said Miss Allali, who never had been to a Chinese show before.

“I really liked the scene with the pink flowers in springtime”, she added referring to the women’s fan dance called Welcoming Spring. The dance is characterized by quick footwork, crisp movements, and stunning bursts of color from the dancers’ feathery pink fans. Its exuberant spirit and marking of the season personify China’s folk dance tradition.
