ST. LOUIS—“It was a very beautiful show! It was well put together and very colorful and very dramatic!” Carrie Edelstein, journalist and roducer of Channel 4’s “Great Day In St. Louis,” exclaimed after seeing the opening night of Divine Performing Arts (DPA) at the Touhill Performing Arts Center in St. Louis.

Because Ms. Edelstein is a television producer, her professional sensibilities are highly attuned to the stunning visual effects that are incorporated into DPA.

Overall, she said she was impressed with “the dramatic differences in between each number and the colors and the interpretation of the music.”

“It was very rich in culture,” she added.

DPA highlights China’s 5,000 year history through classical Chinese dance and vocal performances, presenting this rich legacy as a true cultural gift to the world.

She went on to share her feelings about one of the particular segments which really reached out to her. One of the show’s dances, Heaven Awaits Us Despite Persecution, tells the tragic story of a father who is persecuted for practicing Falun Gong.

“I think that even in persecution there is heaven, dignity and grace,” she added.

The tragic scenes that unfold in this dance tell a story about present-day China and bring a message of hope, which echos the longstanding Chinese belief that good people are ultimately rewarded, even if not in this lifetime.
