New Brunswick, the county seat of Middlesex County and home to Rutgers University, is known for its rich cultural heritage. Centrally located between New York City and Philadelphia, it is home to one of the country’s oldest universities.

On Aug. 10, Divine Performing Arts debuted its first show in New Brunswick, N.J. The show drew rave reviews from audience members.

“Its a historic show, with great entertainment all rolled into one. We were really glad we came,” said Ted DiIorio, a culinary arts teacher.

The viewers had good reason to be glad; the show featured dances and songs from ancient Chinese culture and history.

“Gorgeous, amazing, amazing Chinese culture. I will attend every one of these shows from here on out. This is my first time experiencing Chinese culture other than in books, and it was just incredible,” said Lou Bober, real estate agent.

Lou and others had reason to say that. Just two days after the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympics—a lavish extravaganza at the surface, put together by the Chinese Communist Party for billions of dollars and showcasing Communist Party culture—Divine Performing Arts’ performance exhibited ancient virtues of peace and harmony.

The Divine Performing Arts has performed in over 60 cities on its Chinese New Year Spectacular tour last year, drawing hundreds of thousands of fans and earning rave reviews from critics.
