Taiwanese Fashion designer Vanessa Huang describes the opening of the Divine Performing Arts Mid-Autumn Spectacular on Sept. 24, 2008 as a success.

The famous fashion designer—who has designed dresses for wives of high-ranking Taiwanese officials and top business executives of large conglomerates in Taiwan, including the Shin Kong Group—watched the magnificent show at Toronto’s John Bassett Theatre.

“As a professional fashion designer, I had paid special attention to every detail of their costumes. The performers’ costumes were magnificent, and the accessories were very beautiful.”

Ms. Huang liked the Mongolian Bowl Dance, Chopstick Zest, and the Drummers of the Tang Court most.

“The costumes and their accessories in the Mongolian Bowl Dance were exceptionally beautiful. The large number of glittering ornaments on the costumes made the movements of the dance like waves.”

“The overall performance,” she continued, “was a combination of classics and modernity. In particular, I noticed that some diagrams on the skirts of the performers of the Mongolian Bowl Dance were made of glittering flakes. As a fashion designer, I looked at the costume as a whole. As to the costumes in the Mongolian Bowl Dance, the crests on the dancers’ heads, the glittering flakes on their back, and the design on the shoes matched perfectly.”

“The costumes of the Chopstick Zest were also spectacular,“ she said. ”They had the Chinese nation’s special flavour, with bright colours. The materials of the costumes are very soft, which made the dance very lively and dynamic.”

Regarding the costumes in Nymphs of the Sea, Ms. Huang said, “It was excellent to dance with fans against the blue backdrops. It was indeed very wonderful, as if fairies were dancing in water.”

She also highly praised Divine Performing Arts’ overall performance, and said that she really appreciated these performers’ “excellent” facial expressions.
