The student felt very proud upon seeing a Western audience applaud the compassion and beauty of traditional Chinese culture. He said that in recent years, many people have been viewing China as strong in its economy but weak in its culture.
“They feel that our country is still unable to earn more respect from foreigners. As an overseas student ... DPA’s show has filled me with pride and gratitude. I have always felt that the Chinese nation has a long and splendid civilization. Traditional Chinese culture is built upon the vast ocean of abundant and radiating wisdom that the Chinese people have accumulated over the years, and which today’s generation can continuously draw upon for inspiration and emulation.
“To preserve the richness and variety of Chinese cultural heritage and promote cross-cultural understandings, the essence of traditional Chinese culture needs to be acknowledged and presented to the general public. Divine Performing Arts has done exactly that. They present the spirit of China’s traditional divine culture to Western audiences—a vision of sincere compassion and exquisite beauty through China’s 5,000 years of myths and legends,” he said.
He said this was actually not his first time watching a DPA show. When he was first exposed to the Chinese New Year Spectacular on New Tang Dynasty Television (NTDTV), he was immediately captivated by it. He felt that it was really great and inspiring, and it truly presents the compassionate power, the beautiful side of human nature. He said, “I felt very lucky to be able to watch DPA’s live performance. Watching it live has more of an impact on me.”
The student also said, “To tell the truth, under China’s censorship, not many people have the opportunity of knowing and understanding Divine Performing Arts. They are still stuck in the communist mindset that China’s totalitarian rule has given them, and are unable to see the outside world. I believe that people who have watched the Divine Performing Arts show, whether they admit it or not, are able to tell the difference between goodness and evil, beauty and ugliness. I think any person of conscience will sincerely feel that this is truly presenting the beauty and compassion of human nature.”
