TAIPEI—Media veteran Huang Tiencai, arrived at the National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall on April 2 to watch Shen Yun Performing Arts International Company accompanied by his wife.

“The show is unexpectedly fabulous,” Mr. Huang said, who was seeing the world-acclaimed New York-based show for the first time.

“I didn’t expect the show to be so amazing. I think every Shen Yun performer has done an excellent job—no matter whether it is in terms of the dancing, singing, solo musicians and the full orchestra.”

Mr. Huang was in awe of the high-tech backdrop scenery that transported audiences from celestial realms to the Mongolian plains.

“The scene looks like a wide-screen movie. At the end of the first-half performance, I found myself totally overwhelmed. I feel very satisfied,” he said.

Mr. Huang attended the show upon a friend’s recommendation.

“The show is exceptionally magnificent in all aspects. Hardly have we seen any performance like Shen Yun, which portrays Chinese traditions... Without any doubt, this has been a very context-rich, highly successful performance.”

Mr. Huang also enjoyed the dance, Monkey King Outwits Pigsy adpated from the popular Chinese novel, Journey to the West, but every story-dance hit its mark.

“Every program by the Shen Yun artists is high quality. Take Little Mischievous Monks as an example, all of the actors participating in the dance were dedicated to playing their roles,” he said.

Shen Yun’s explicit mission to reawaken 5,000 years of Chinese traditions highly impressed Mr. Huang.

“I think their intention will impress people everywhere in the world,“ he said. ”Shen Yun has made us realize the diversity and characteristics of Chinese culture, which distinguishes itself from Western civilizations. Therefore, I think it is marvelous. Shen Yun is an excellent, Chinese-culture-promoting performance that goes far beyond my expectation.”

Mr. Huang was dispatched to Japan in the early 1960’s and stationed there as a news correspondent for 24 years. In his career, Mr. Huang used to work as president of the Central Daily newspaper, and president/ chairman of Central News Agency.
