DETROIT—“There’s much more depth going on here than just entertainment!”

Those were the words of Mr. Yoffley, who was with his wife at the Ford Community and
Performing Arts Center to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

They joined hundreds of audience members hurrying into the theater for the closing performance of the Divine Performing Arts 2009 World Tour in Michigan.

“And there’s something about those drums that just goes right through you,” Mr. Yoffley said.

His wife, a teacher, agreed. “It’s all the colors, they’re so awesome and so beautiful! It leaves you with a nice feeling,” she said.

Mr. Yoffley, is a union representative for the steel company he works for. He acknowledged that China had the oldest culture in the world, and recognized elements of classical Chinese dance he thought were included in other cultures, such as Polish and Cossack dances from Europe.

“The Tibetan ‘Dance of the Snow-Capped Mountains’ is one of the numbers that I especially liked,” he said. “All these European cultures seem to have gotten their dances from Chinese culture.”

The DPA performance is founded in China’s divinely inspired ancient traditions. The artform Of classical Chinese dance is uniquely distinctive with roots reaching back millenia. Stretching across diverse regions of China, the DPA opens a window to a rich cultural heritage.”

Mr. Yoffley said, “[Eastern] culture is very heartfelt and delicate, there’s a history and beauty to that culture.

“There’s a divine being and we all draw strength from this - there’s a lot more here - whether we all understood the message or not, it opens up the door for hope and inspiration!”
