MIAMI—Audrey Deckman, a retired ballet dancer and teacher, said she would always remember the Shen Yun performance at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts on April 20.

Ms. Deckman danced with the American Ballet Theatre and New York City Ballet—“danced with them for 8 years and then taught for 16 years,” she said.

“I enjoyed this program so very much. They were extraordinary artists. They were so together, and they were so focused on the audience and what they were doing. I enjoyed it enormously. [I’m] so proud of them.

“They’re so wonderful, really excellent dancers. And they had so much projection and feeling. The qualities they have in their dancing are wonderful, but they also projected so well.”

“I am very thrilled and I hope to see them soon again. It makes you feel up and happy and in a good spirit,” she said of the overall performance.

She also enjoyed Shen Yun’s presentation of traditional Chinese culture and said it is important that Shen Yun impart this culture: “They should be seen worldwide. They are very good.”

Ms. Deckman said she would tell her friends the same. “I think they must not miss it. They must be sure to see it and enjoy it because it is so special.”

Every year, Shen Yun travels for about six months, performing an all-new program in some 20 countries and 100 cities, according to the Shen Yun website. “Entirely non-profit, and independent of the Chinese regime, Shen Yun enjoys the artistic freedom of New York, enabling it to now bring these ancient traditions to the stage,” the website states.

Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company will perform next in Sarasota, Fla., April 22 and 23. The company will complete its 2013–2014 tour in Florida with performances in Jacksonville, May 9–11.
