PASADENA, Calif.—Mr. Wilcox, an accomplished dancer and dance teacher  was so impressed that he proposed to “steal” some ideas. The Divine Performing Arts (DPA) International Company performed their seventh of eight shows at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium, Los Angeles on Saturday night, Jan. 3.

Mr. Wilcox has danced since childhood, and was a soloist with an acclaimed company in Europe.  He founded and leads an American company which has performed internationally and produced accomplished dancers.  He fully understands the technique and artistry in any dance performance. He lauded the beauty in the DPA performances, “It was very, very beautiful... I really appreciate all the Chinese culture and art.”

“It was beautiful, very very beautiful … I have been in ballet my whole life, and so much of the movement and the dance that they [DPA International Company] do is really very nice.”

“Yeah it was wonderful, I love it, I love all Chinese art.”

Mr. Wilcox was intrigued by the digital projections, and said, “I love the way they use the video, the backdrop to be able to change the scene and to be able integrate the action on the stage with the backdrop, and having like people flying in and out, that was very clever, I might steal that idea.”

The distinguished artist said, “I think the arts in general are very spiritual in nature, and I think that combining the arts and spirituality is appropriate. The beauty of art and the beauty of spirituality they both go together.”

His niece is a musician and a college student.  She particularly loved the orchestra and the instruments. She said, “I am a musician and so, I am a music major and I love the instrumentation, the instrumentation of the orchestra just really represented everything that [they] wanted to portray, and it was just beautiful, I loved it.”

She added, “I loved the mix of Asian and Western Instruments in the orchestra, I am not used to hearing lots of Asian culture instruments, but I loved that. I am Japanese, and so I love hearing that kind of instrument, and it was just beautiful the way they combined flutes with the wooden flutes and all the other Asian instruments, it was beautiful.”

Ms. Wilcox, one of his daughters, responded to  the costumes and appearance of the performance saying, “The costumes, the colors were my favorite, just visually it was very beautiful with the backdrop, the video production and, you know the costumes and how they brought that together it was just visually beautiful.”

Another daughter also liked what she saw, and said, “I really liked the flips they did and things, because it’s so cool, I just really liked it, yeah.”
