The side project of US indie legends Yo La Tengo, Condo ****s return with a sixth album. Opening with an excellent cover of The Small Faces’ ‘What’cha Gonna Do About It’ this tremendously fun and deliberately ramshackle effort is charming throughout. ‘With a Girl Like You’ could easily take its place on a Yo La Tengo album proper but is in fact a cover of a Troggs classic. But most of the record would certainly not be out of place on Nuggets, the retrospective on 1960s US garage rock which won so many plaudits a few years ago. All in all this is an excellent stop gap for those craving something new from Yo La Tengo.
