PASADENA, Calif.—Theater goers filled the halls of the Pasadena Civic Auditorium this Tuesday evening eager for the opening night of the Divine Performing Arts, 2009 Chinese New Year Spectacular.

Ms. Colvard, who came from her hometown in Houston to Pasadena for the Rose bowl parade is ‘Ms. Wheelchair America.’

“Its beautiful, its interesting to learn about the different diverse dances, how systematic all of the movements are and the meaning behind each and the costumes that they wear, its fascinating.”

Manager of research administration at a cancer center, Colvard reiterated how much she appreciated the opportunity, saying, “I haven’t seen anything like this before, it’s absolutely beautiful.”

A pilot in the Las Angeles area, Mr. Iker, came this evening because his wife was interested in seeing the show.  “I enjoyed it very much--very nice,” explaining that the images were,“ Colorful, innovative.”

He said that he most liked the “dance with the flowers and falling leaves because of the colorfully coordinated movements.”

Steve, a physician, came by himself to the show. He said he “always enjoyed seeing traditional dance.” He was particularly impressed that there were minority dances since “there are a lot of ethnicities in China.” He continued, saying he “enjoy[s] ethnic dance.”

In in one word, Steve said the Chinese New Year Spectacular is “culture,” which he regarded as the utmost of compliments.
