BOULDER, Colorado—As Denver prepares to witness 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, twelve mayors, and numerous Denver businesses are showing their support for the 4th annual Denver show by Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company, the world’s premier classical Chinese dance and music company.

Governor Hinkenlooper, the Mayor of Denver, and the Mayors of eleven surrounding cities proclaimed the show a worthwhile event and sent formal proclamations of appreciation for Shen Yun and its hosting organizations.

Denver Mayor Bill Vidal nominated March 19 (this year’s show date), “Chinese Divine Culture Association and Shen Yun Performing Arts Day.”

This year the Aurora based non-profit Chinese Divine Culture Association (CDCA), and the Falun Dafa Association of Colorado are Shen Yun’s Colorado hosts.

Vivian Lam, the CDCA coordinator for Shen Yun, said the organization is very grateful for the all the support from media and businesses who have sponsored the show.

She also expressed her thanks to the elected officials who have supported the show. “We appreciate the tremendous support from the Governor and mayors who have issued our organization proclamations recognizing the value that Shen Yun brings the community,” she said.

Shen Yun celebrates traditional Chinese culture, incorporating ancient heroic legends, stories of courage from contemporary China, and beautiful ethnic dances. The dance is accompanied by entirely original music played by a full orchestra of Western and Chinese instruments. The full-screen digital backdrops draw the audience into magical realms depicting vistas of China across epochs.

The show seeks to entertain and delight with vivid colors and stirring harmonies, as well as educate, enrich and inspire viewers across cultural boundaries. Shen Yun Performing Arts is a New York-based company completely independent of China’s communist regime.

This year Shen Yun’s three touring companies are traveling around the globe to countries in Europe, Australia, South and North America, and Asia; excluding China. The show does not travel to Mainland China because China’s ruling Communist Party (CCP) deems the Falun Gong content in the show sensitive. The CCP has carried out a systematic and violent persecution of Falun Gong, a self-cultivation practice based on the principles of truth, compassion, and tolerance, since 1999.

Mayor Vidal, Boulder Mayor Susan Osborne, and Mayors, Bob Frie of Arvada, David Spellman of Blackhawk; Paul Natale of Commerce City; Jacob Smith of Golden; Ron Rakowsky, Greenwood Village; Bob Murphy of Lakewood; David Casiano of Parker; Nancy McNally of Westminster; and Jerry DiTullio of Wheat Ridge, all sent proclamations honoring Shen Yun.

Other sponsors of this year’s show include the Denver Post, 9News, and local Denver magazine 5280. Generous donations were also made by Kaiser Permanente, Isle Casino, Hmart, Silla—a Korean barbeque restuarant, and State Farm. Sonoda’s Sushi and Seafood restaurant will also feed the performers.

The CDCA works to promote Chinese history, traditional culture, ethics, and art, as well as multiculturalism and dialogue among Chinese and all interested in Chinese culture.

Shen Yun will perform two shows at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House on Saturday, March 19 at 2 pm and 7:30 pm.For more information, visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
