SAN FRANCISCO—“Absolutely fabulous! It’s amazing,” said Jennifer Lewis, Dean at Cuyamaca College, who flew up from San Diego to take her mother to Shen Yun’s matinee performance on Jan. 11.
“Loved it! Just loved it,” added Ms. Lewis’ mother.
The precision of each of the Shen Yun dancers’ movements, spins, flips, and tumbling impressed Ms. Lewis.
“You know what amazed me the most? We talked about it; it was the absolute silence of the performance so that you could really enjoy the dancing and also the music associated with it. It seemed like they were floating. It was great!” said Ms. Lewis.
Each year Shen Yun presents an entirely new production with orchestral accompaniment.
Shen Yun’s website read, “A Shen Yun performance features the world’s foremost classically trained dancers, a unique orchestra blending East and West, and dazzling animated backdrops—together creating one spectacular performance.”
“I loved the costumes, the colors, and the orchestra was amazing,” said Ms. Lewis.
Shen Yun’s 2014 tour was Ms. Lewis’ first time experiencing classical Chinese dance.
“The dancing was incredible,” she said.
The pieces presented, such as The Monkey King Thwarts the Evil Toad from the Chinese classic Journey to the West, or the piece titled Ne Zha Churns the Sea, tell rich historical stories of China’s past.
Ms. Lewis’s mother concluded, “A must see. Go see it!”
